We all know what it's like to feel stressed and overwhelmed. Mental health is incredibly important and deserves our attention. So, what can we do to lighten the mental load and boost our well-being?

Developed a journaling application designed to alleviate cognitive burden and promote mental well-being by facilitating the swift capture of ideas.

Problem

It’s difficult to jot down one’s thoughts, frustrations , or ideas on the fly with how busy and face paced the world is.

Solution

A multi-input note-taking application that integrates voice, text, and image capture to streamline the process of recording thoughts and ideas, thereby reducing cognitive load.

The Issue

In our modern society, people are mentally overbooked due to modern cognitive load, forgetfulness, and notes are too hard.

Our objective was to delve into the intersection of mental health and digital therapy, as our team frequently engaged with AI to navigate personal issues and life challenges.

Research

However, we conducted 15 user interviews to understand people’s thoughts on reflection, journaling, and note-taking
and found out...

“ With how dangerous AI can be, I don’t want to seek mental-health advice or suggestions through AI”

“If there was a way to just quickly get my thoughts out without needing to get a pen-and-paper out, that would be AMAZING”
"I have a journal but it’s really hard to keep up because I am bad at forming habits and writing down my thoughts is a hassle. The idea of cementing a memory or transient thought I have/had is the most appealing aspect about journalling for me."

1.
People felt uncomfortable with AI for reflection or deeper journalling.
2.
Note-taking apps are tedious.
3.
People see the value in note taking/journalling, but it feels tedious.

While users did not perceive AI-driven therapy as beneficial, they acknowledged the importance of capturing thoughts digitally. Nevertheless, they frequently relied on the Notes app, which they found difficult to access quickly and while on the move.

And to top it all off, there are no existing solutions to quickly jot down one's thoughts in an effective, multi-media input style.

With our market research, there are only journaling apps that allow you to write down your thoughts similar to a diary. There are no apps out there that allows you to easily access and add notes in a fast manner.

We decided to focus on an easy way to jot down notes journaling app.

A prototype that makes it very easy to quickly jot down or voice memo thoughts and ideas you are having on the fly. The prototype then condenses the many thoughts that people have into an easily digestible report of all their thoughts, reducing their cognitive load. They would be able to record important dates, things to do, ideas, or even rant to themselves.

Addressing each use case and resolving all user pain points.

We wanted to ensure we were addressing all concerns regarding journaling and how we can help high stress situations. To achieve this, we incorporated features that cater to diverse preferences and needs. Users can jot down thoughts by typing, which allows for quick and organized entries. For those who prefer a more personal touch, voice recording offers an intimate way to capture emotions and reflections. Additionally, the option to photograph moments or inspirations provides a visual dimension to journaling, making it a versatile tool for self-expression and stress relief.

I conceptualized the primary design of ClearMind by creating a serene and minimalist aesthetic, drawing inspiration from the calming aspects of nature. The objective was to create a user interface that promotes concentration and tranquility, utilizing soft color palettes and streamlined lines to achieve an optimal user experience.

Reflection

Working remotely presented some challenges, particularly in terms of communication and ensuring everyone was aligned with the project's goals. Coordinating across different time zones and managing virtual meetings required extra effort and adaptability. Despite these hurdles, I found immense satisfaction in collaborating with the team and bringing the project's visuals to life. The experience taught me valuable lessons in digital collaboration and creative problem-solving. Given the limited timeframe, I believe our solution was a commendable reflection of our efforts.

If I had more time with this project, I would conduct a usability testing and a mood tracker.
