Overview

Problem

DoorDash’s mission is to revolutionize the food delivery service by providing a convenient and health-conscious experience for all users, especially college students. They aim to promote food transparency through features like clear nutritional information, meal recommendations, balanced options, calorie tracking, meal planning tools, and affordable healthy choices. However, college students still struggle to eat healthily due to limited options, busy schedules, and tight budgets. Your mission is to design an experience for users that will help them take better care of their health.

Solution

Dash, the DoorDash Dog. Your companion to eating healthy — he eats what you eat.

How might DoorDash enable college students to be more conscious of their health and diet?

Problem Space Context

How might DoorDash enable college students to be more conscious of their health and diet?

01. Inadequate NutritionalTransparency

Users often lack clear and easily understandable nutritional information for the meals they order through delivery apps

02.  Overlooked Dietary
Preferences and Restrictions

There's a need for more personalized meal suggestions that align with individual health goals, allergies, and dietary restrictions.

03. Difficulty in Trackingand Managing Caloric Intake

There is no integrated way to monitor caloric and nutrient intake within the food ordering process.

04.  Lack of Integrated
Meal Planning

Users could benefit from features that allow them to plan their meals in advance, aligning with their dietary and health objectives.

05.  Inconsistent Eating
Patterns

Irregular class and study schedules can lead to erratic eating habits among college students, impacting their overall health.

06. Limited Health-Focused Incentives

Current reward systems do not typically encourage healthy choices but rather frequent usage and upselling.

07. Accessibility andAffordability of Healthy Options

Healthier food choices are often perceived as more expensive or less accessible, deterring budget-conscious students.

08.  Impact of
Stress on Diet

Stressful environments can lead to poor dietary choices; need resources for making healthier decisions during high-stress periods.

09. Information Overload

Students might be overwhelmed by conflicting information about diets and health, leading to confusion and decision fatigue.

10.  Social Eating Habits

Eating habits among college students can be heavily influenced by social circles and trends, which may not always align with healthy eating practices.

11. Overall Experience

To address these points would need to provide educational content, personalized options, tracking tools, and incentives that promote healthier eating habits.

We created an affinity map to ideate solutions. Through further research we found that an accountability partner increases success chance to 95% (Pearson’s Law), humans are capable of building an emotional bond with their virtual pet dogs, increase empathy and humane attitude scores. We decided to choose this solution as it had the most votes.

This is Dash, your health companion.

An all-in-one earthquake care package.

Accountability Pet

Dash's mood will change depending on how nutritious your previous orders have been. If you have been eating healthy, Dash will remain happy. If you haven't been eating well, he will become sad.

Dash is customizable

You can dress up Dash and change his name to make him feel more personal

Dietary Preferences

Based on your diet, Dash can recommend you restaurants to go to that will support your goals and needs. Whether you are pescatarian, vegetarian, or losing weight, you can choose your meals.

Dash cravings

Dash will recommend some foods to you that are balanced and healthy. Suggesting better meals may have users crave healthier options rather than being recommended fast food.

Nutritional Trends

With DoorDash adding nutritional facts on their app, we can determine how much fat, protein, or carbohydrates are consumed within the week.

What you eat Dash eats

You can see what you have been feeding Dash and yourself throughout the week.
